Using the "back-cutting technique", the full anatomical form of IPS EmpressEsthetic or IPS Empress Esthetic CAD material is cut back 1/3 of the way to the porcelain developmental lobe structure of the tooth and then individually stained (e.g. developmental lobe). The final tooth shape is completed entirely with the cut-end material.
